Jaw Surgery

In some cases, bite problems may be largely due to malpositioned or poorly related jaw bones. These conditions may or may not be present with associated facial deformities. In growing children or adolescents, some conditions, if treated early enough, may lend themselves to orthopedic correction with appliances that serve to redirect growth so it may be possible to avoid surgery. In non-growing patients or adults, orthopedic correction is not possible and surgery may be necessary for the best results. Under these circumstances, Dr. Hallgren will discuss what can be expected with or without surgery and possibly refer the patient to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for further consultation.
